Consolations

The lyrics of this song explain much about why I find so much consolation in these lovely photographs of distant galaxies. This is the Crab Nebula, I believe taken from the Hubbel Space Telescope (though I've lost track of the provenance of this image). I found the lyrics to this song, written by Julie Gold! Most people remember the version covered by Nancy Griffith, but others have recorded it as well. It's a lovely song; thank you, Julie Gold!

From a Distance Lyrics

by Julie Gold

From a distance, the world looks blue and green
and the snow-capped mountains white.
From a distance the ocean meets the stream
and the eagle takes to flight.
From a distance there is harmony
and it echoes through the land.
It's the voice of hope, it's the voice of peace,
it's the voice of every man.
From a distance, we all have enough
And no one is in need.
There are no guns, no bombs, no diseases,
No hungry mouths to feed.
From a distance we are instruments
Marching in a common band
Playing songs of hope, playing songs of peace
They're the songs of every man.
God is watching us
God is watching us
God is watching us from a distance.
From a distance, you look like my friend
Even though we are at war.
From a distance I cannot comprehend
What all the fighting is for.
From a distance there is harmony
And it echoes through the land.
It's the hope of hopes, it's the love of loves.
It's the heart of every man.
God is watching us
God is watching us
God is watching us from a distance.

Hi, I have never really listened to 'From A Distance' properly, until I heard it today after the thought of the day as a prayer on BBC Radio 2. It caught my attention noting that it was about human life peace and war. I'm glad I have got the words to look at every now and then. I'll write a few personal to me words sometimes and It's nice having inspiration around at hand. Thanks Nicky Worthing.
